Terminator Salvation is an upcoming science fiction war film set for release on May 22, 2009. Directed by McG, it is the fourth film in the Terminator franchise and stars Christian Bale as John Connor, Bryce Dallas Howard as Kate Connor, Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese and Sam Worthington as the new Terminator Marcus Wright. The film, set in 2018, focuses on the original war between humanity and the Terminator computer network Skynet. It abandons the formula of the series, which had involved Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Model 101 Terminator time-traveling to the present to protect or kill someone of future importance. Among the numerous robotic minions of Skynet are Helena Bonham Carter as Serena and Roland Kickinger as the first T-800. Filming began on May 5, 2008

Premise
On May 23, 2008, Warner Bros. released the following plot summary for the film. The synopsis was modified on June 11, 2008:

“ Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor (Christian Bale), the man fated to be the leader of the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators, and the future he was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they find out a terrible secret that may lead to the possible annihilation of mankind. ”

James Middleton, the associate producer of the film, stated the film "[is] really about the birth of a new hero,"[2] and McG said that it will also be about the development of the Model 101 Terminator.[3] He explained the film will "begin again very much in the spirit of what [Christopher] Nolan did with Batman," in that it will stand on its own without the original films, and that it is "a bit of a sequel and a prequel because it tells the story of how we got there."

Production

On May 9, 2007, it was announced that rights to the Terminator series had passed hands from producers Andrew G. Vajna and Mario Kassar to The Halcyon Company. The producers hoped to start a new trilogy based on the franchise. McG signed on to direct as the first two films were among his favorites, and he had even cast Robert Patrick (who played the T-1000) in his films. He felt the post-apocalyptic setting allowed the film to be different enough so to not be an inferior sequel. The idea that events in Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines altered the future also allowed them to be flexible with their presentation of the futuristic world. John D. Brancato, Michael Ferris and David C. Wilson wrote the script, which Paul Haggis polished and Shawn Ryan rewrote three weeks before filming. Jonathan Nolan also wrote on set, which led to McG characterizing his work on the script as the most important.

On July 19, 2007, the Terminator 4 project was in legal limbo due to a lawsuit between MGM and Halcyon subsidiary T Asset. According to the article, MGM has an exclusive window of 30 days to negotiate for distribution of the Terminator films. When negotiating for Terminator 4, Halcyon rejected their initial proposal, and MGM suspended negotiations. After the 30 days were over, MGM claimed that the period during which negotiations were suspended did not count and their exclusive period is still open. Halcyon was asking a court for an injunction allowing them to approach other distributors. Eventually, however, Warner Bros. was able to obtain North American distribution rights, while Sony Pictures Entertainment will distribute the film overseas. This makes Salvation the first film in the series to have the same distributors as the previous film.

Shooting of the film started on May 5, 2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The filmmakers had originally intended to begin filming on April 15 in Budapest, but a new twenty-five percent tax rebate and absence of an interest rate cap and floor made the filmmakers seek the cheaper New Mexico, because of their $200 million budget. To avoid delays caused by a possible 2008 Screen Actors Guild strike in July, all exterior scenes were completed by then, so production could restart easily. The shoot is expected to go on into September. The film is shot on color film stock with triple the amount of silver, lending to the sense of detachment from the modern world McG was looking for. The filmmakers consulted with many scientists about the effects of an abandoned world and nuclear winter. McG cited the film Children of Men and the novel The Road as his influences. McG instructed his cast to read the latter and made Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? a required reading on set.

Stan Winston, who was the visual effects supervisor on the first three films, continued his role on Terminator Salvation. The film features the rubber-skinned T-600s, which Winston's company put a lot of effort into looking like an eight-foot tall machine wrapped in prosthetics. McG described many of the machines as having a H.R. Giger influence. The film was one of the last Winston worked on, as he died on June 15, 2008 from multiple myeloma. McG will dedicate the film to him. Winston also filmed a cameo as someone wrestling a Hydrobot.

Fast & Furious is the latest film in the The Fast and the Furious film series, the fourth produced but sequel to the first and second, and prequel to the third film. The film is currently in production and is scheduled for release on June 12, 2009. The plot connects with the original film of the series from which Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster are reprising their roles.

Among others cast in the film are reggaetoneros Don Omar and Tego Calderon, Sung Kang will reprise his role from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift as Han, Israeli model Gal Gadot, Lil Wayne, T.I., and actor Mine. In an interview, Tyrese Gibson stated that he would make a cameo to reprise his role as Roman Pearce from the second film. The actor stated that it will be "kind of like what Vin Diesel did in [Tokyo Drift]."

Συγνώμη αλλά όσο και να έψαξα δεν μπόρεσα να βρω την υπόθεση του έργου, αλλά πιστεύω ότι δεν θα έχει καμία διάφορα από το επίσημο κόμικς που γνωρίζουμε…

Πάντως από το Trailer που είδα φαίνεται αρκετά ενδιαφέρων .

WATCHMEN
Το αριστουργηματικό αυτό έργο των Άλαν Μουρ και Ντέιβ Γκίμπονς, αποτέλεσε ορόσημο στην ιστορία των κόμικς αλλά και της λογοτεχνίας γενικότερα. Πρόκειται για μια αρκετά σκοτεινή και περίπλοκη δημιουργία, με πολλούς συμβολισμούς. Οι δημιουργοί του κέρδισαν το βραβείο Τζακ Κίρμπυ της βιομηχανίας των κόμικς για την καλύτερη συνεργασία συγγραφέα/καλλιτέχνη.

Η ιστορία αφορά μια ομάδα μαχητών του εγκλήματος, τους Watchmen, και μια συνωμοσία για να τους σκοτώσουν και να αμαυρώσουν το όνομά τους. Τα γεγονότα λαμβάνουν χώρα στην Αμερική το 1985, οκτώ χρόνια μετά τη διάλυση της ομάδας, όταν ο Δρ. Μανχάταν (ένα ον σχεδόν θεϊκό και πρώην μέλος των Watchmen) αποφασίζει να εγκαταλείψει τη Γη. Η ιστορία του είναι ένα μείγμα μυστηρίου και πολιτικού δράματος μιας κοινωνίας που ζει μέσα σε ένα κλίμα φορτισμένο με φόβο, εχθροπραξίες, βία και την απειλή πυρηνικού πολέμου. Οι χαρακτήρες έχουν όλοι μια δόση παράνοιας, που ο Μουρ την απεικονίζει πιστά στις πιο σκοτεινές της εκδοχές. Ακόμα και οι στολές τους λειτουργούν ως συμβολισμοί για την κοινωνία και την πολιτική και ο φόβος για κοινά προβλήματα (έλεγχος όπλων, πυρηνική απειλή, απόδοση δικαιοσύνης) μπλέκεται άριστα με την ικανότητα του Μουρ να θίγει θέματα όπως η ψευδαίσθηση της δύναμης, η αποσύνθεση του κοινωνικού ιστού, η απίστευτη καταρράκωση της απλής λογικής και η δημιουργία μαζικής τρέλας στις μεγαλουπόλεις, δημιουργώντας ένα ψυχογράφημα της κοινωνίας, διαχρονικό, ανθρώπινο και αναπάντεχα επίκαιρο.

Ένα βιβλίο κόμικ ύμνος στην αξία της λογικής και της αναζήτησης της αλήθειας, την οποία οι άνθρωποι μπορούν να πλησιάσουν μόνο όταν γκρεμίσουν τις ψευδαισθήσεις που στηρίζονται πάνω στο φόβο, το εγώ και την απάθεια. Αρκετά κυνικό και δυνατό σε όλα τα επίπεδα που κινείται, είναι σίγουρα ένα βιβλίο κόμικ που πρέπει να βρίσκεται σε κάθε βιβλιοθήκη. Πηγή:WATCHMEN - Βιβλια, Κριτικές για βιβλία

Η ταινία βέβαια θα έχει αρκετά διαφορετικό τέλος από το κόμικ, αλλά καλύτερα να μην το σποϊλάρω σε όσους το έχον διαβάσει.

Το πρόβλημα με αυτή την ταινία είναι ότι, ενώ έπεσε τρομερή βαρύτητα στο να αντιγραφεί σωστά και το παραμικρό καρέ, προς τέρψη του fan boy, οτιδήποτε μη-στερεοτυπικά-cool είχε το κόμικ, έχει αντικατασταθεί εδώ με κάτι πιο εύπεπτο για το δυτικό κινηματογράφο.

Για παράδειγμα, εδώ, ο δεύτερος Nite Owl μοιάζει με στυλιζαρισμένο αντίγραφο του Batman, σε αντίθεση με την αρχική απεικόνισή του στο κόμικ:

Έτσι όμως έχει χαθεί όλη η ουσία του κόμικ. Δε μου κάνει εντύπωση που ο Alan Moore είπε ότι δε θέλει να έχει καμία σχέση με την ταινία, όπως και με οποιαδήποτε κινηματογραφική μεταφορά έργου του από 'δω και πέρα.

Τέλος πάντων, αν παραβλέψουμε τις ασυμφωνίες με το κόμικ, για τον μέσο movie-goer προβλέπεται πολύ καλή περίπτωση. Ο πήχης στις super hero movies έχει ανεβεί αρκετά, και αν και καμία ποτέ δε θα φτάσει το Dark Knight, οι wannabes θα μας δίνουν αρκετά καλά αποτελέσματα θέλω να πιστεύω. Ακόμα και το Punisher:War Zone ψιλοκαλό φαίνεται για σπλατεριά.

Ανυπομονώ να δω πως έχει παρουσιάσει ο Zack Snyder τους Minutemen!
